Suriyanlek Por Yenying is riding high on confidence as he prepares to headline ONE Friday Fights 124 in an all-Thai classic against Decho Por Borirak.
The Sangtiennoi Gym representative and the surging 22-year-old meet in a 132-pound Muay Thai matchup inside Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium live in Asia primetime this Friday, September 12.
Suriyanlek enters this clash hunting for his 84th career victory and another spectacular finish to add to his impressive ONE Championship resume.
The Thai’s confidence reached new heights following his second-round knockout of Rambong Sor Therapat at ONE Friday Fights 115 this past July, a finish that showcased his ability to adapt and find openings under pressure.
Suriyanlek said:
“In that fight, I felt the pressure in the first round. But as we kept fighting, I started seeing openings. When he’d throw a knee, his guard would drop, and that’s when my punches could land.
“The moment I got the knockout, he was throwing a knee, and he walked right into my counter punch. I was surprised he just went out like that against the ropes.”
The man standing across from him inside “the Mecca of Muay Thai” this week presents a different challenge altogether.
Decho brings an eight-fight winning streak, capped by successive victories over Isannuea ChotBangsaen in the ONE Friday Fights series. Moreover, the 22-year-old has a 6-inch height advantage over the 5-foot-2 Suriyanlek.
Despite the obvious challenges, the Sangtiennoi athlete isn’t intimidated by his opponent’s dimensions, momentum, or quality:
“He’s a tall [and] long fighter. He was a fighter who specialized in knee attacks back when we fought five-round fights, but lately, his arsenal is so complete. I’m not a big fan of fighting knee fighters anyway, and he also has that height advantage.”
While sensing that he may have his work cut out, this won’t be the first time the 29-year-old finds himself at a physical disadvantage inside the ring.
Most of his assignments in the organization have come against larger opponents. He, however, makes up for his lack of size with an iron chin and a piston-like right hand that packs vicious power.
Seven of his eight wins in ONE have come inside the distance, and should all go according to plan, Suriyanlek believes he could be on the cusp of another highlight-reel moment at ONE Friday Fights 124.
He shared:
“I’m confident that I can take him down. If I can block his knees and his close-range weapons. He could get caught with my punch and go down. I’m confident in my fists.”
Suriyanlek Por Yenying has identified the blueprint for victory against Decho Por Borirak, and it centers around turning his foe’s greatest strengths into exploitable weaknesses.
The Muay Thai technician plans on timing his attacks as soon as his opposite number drops his guard while he shifts into offense.
Even if he doesn’t find a home for his trademark right fist, the 29-year-old has prepared additional tools to cover all bases when he locks horns with the Singha Mawynn man on September 12:
“The things I need to be careful of are definitely his kicks and knees. His weakness, I’d say, is when he comes in to throw a knee. There should be a gap for me to get my punches in. He’ll be open to getting hit by my punches.
“Moreover, besides my signature punch, I’ve prepared a lot of other weapons. I’ve got kicks to match him as well.”
Beyond Decho, this headliner showdown at ONE Friday Fights 124 represents more than just another fight for the Thai knockout machine.
Suriyanlek wants to position himself for bigger opportunities in his career, and a US$100,000 contract and a spot on the main roster will allow him to realize his dream to the fullest on the grandest stage of combat sports.
He continued:
“My goal in this fight is to do my best. I’m on this path, on this stage, and I have to do my best. If I can get an impressive victory in this fight, I want to go back and fight in a big event again. I’m very grateful to the promotion for giving me this opportunity.”
