Every fighter has a bout that defines them. For Cynthia Flores, that fight is on Friday, June 26.
The Mexican star steps into the biggest matchup of her career when she faces former three-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex in an atomweight Muay Thai clash at The Inner Circle 20, live in Asia primetime from the prestigious Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The event streams exclusively on live.onefc.com.
Born and raised in Mexico City alongside four sisters, the 31-year-old Phuket Fight Club star has spent her career grinding toward an opportunity exactly like this one. Two appearances inside ONE last year sharpened her and pushed her to her limits.
Now, with a 25-7 professional record and the full weight of her preparation behind her, Flores arrives ready to announce herself against the most decorated female martial artist the promotion has ever produced.
The offer did not arrive in conventional circumstances. Flores was visiting family when the news landed.
She recalled the moment:
“I was on my way to Thailand. I was in Spain making a stopover and visiting my sister when the news came in late April. I can’t deny it surprised me. I gave myself three days to think it over while I made my way to Thailand, and that was it — I accepted the fight. I was somewhere between happy and nervous.”
Three days of reflection led to one clear conclusion. Stamp is the one and only fighter in ONE history to have claimed World Titles in Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA, a three-sport queen whose name sits alongside the greatest in the promotion’s history.
Facing her in a Muay Thai contest, with Stamp returning to the discipline after a six-year absence, is the kind of matchup that defines careers.
She said:
“Without a doubt, it’s the best opportunity of my career, and I’m not going to let it slip away. My first dream was to get to ONE, and then to stand out among the best — and I will achieve that. I want to put myself in a great position because I have worked very hard for this.”
Inside Phuket Fight Club, Flores has been preparing alongside ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues, who recently defended her crown against the formidable challenge of “The Queen” Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom.
Having the support of the reigning ruler, one who took the strap from Stamp herself, has given the Mexican fighter a confidence that extends beyond the physical.
She said:
“I feel happy and motivated that she believes in me. She saw the work I put in during this training camp, and I promise to give the very best of myself.”
Cynthia Flores has done her homework, and she likes what she has found. The Mexican star acknowledges that Stamp Fairtex brings an almost unparalleled wealth of experience into the ring.
These are not things Flores takes lightly. But experience alone does not win fights, and the gaps she has identified in Stamp’s armor have given her a clear blueprint for victory.
She said:
“Without a doubt, her strength is her experience. Her weakness is that she hasn’t been very active in Muay Thai and is coming back after time away from competition.
“I’m much faster, I have better cardio, and I’m aggressive. I don’t have the same experience, but I’ve been through wars in the ring. I know how to get out of tight spots, and above all, I’m hungry to win.”
Flores has not just prepared for this fight physically. She has rehearsed it mentally, running through scenario after scenario until only one conclusion remains.
Whether the fight finishes early or stretches across three full rounds, the ending she sees is always the same.
She revealed:
“I want to win. I’ve visualized many scenarios, but in all of them, I win. I’m ready for an exchange that could end in the first round or to go to war for three full rounds.”
