In the featured fight of ONE Friday Fights 142, Zhang “Fighting Rooster” Peimian outmaneuvered “El Jefe” Ellis Badr Barboza across three intense strawweight kickboxing rounds inside Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, February 13, live in Asia primetime.
Barboza came forward from the jump, applying steady pressure to make his intentions known. But the 22-year-old Shengli Fight Club affiliate refused to get rattled in this clash between two former ONE World Title challengers.
Zhang disrupted his foe’s momentum behind his usual speed, and a sharp low kick and right hook combo in the opening round changed the tone.
Zhang shifted a gear up when the match resumed in round two. “Fighting Rooster” backed his foe and hurt him with stabbing kicks to the body.
The Chinese continued to pick his spots with quick combinations, forcing the Team Mehdi Zatout product to chase rather than dictate. It was smart, measured work – less firefight, more chess match.
In the final stanza, the Shengli Fight Club athlete stuck to the script with probing low kicks and clean three-punch bursts. Barboza swung big, but Zhang remained one step ahead to take home a comfortable unanimous decision win that upped his slate to 20-5.
