ONE Friday Fights 119 Results: Samingdam Sneaks Past Sonrak, Khunponnoi Extends Win Streak

Fast finishes, come-from-behind victories, and battles of will and attrition — ONE Friday Fights 119 had it all and then some.

The event aired live in Asia primetime on Friday, August 8, from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, where two dozen fighters across Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA fought for their shot at a US$100,000 contract and a spot on the main roster of the world’s largest martial arts organization.

In case you missed any of the action, here’s what went down from Thailand’s capital city on the latest installment of ONE Friday Fights.

Samingdam Overcomes Sonrak In Three-Rounder Thriller

Samingdam NF Looksuan Sonrak Fairtex ONE Friday Fights 119 3

Samingdam NF Looksuan promised to walk Sonrak Fairtex down from the get-go and make their 140-pound Muay Thai headliner bout unforgettable for fans — and that he did.

When the brass bell echoed throughout the Mecca of Muay Thai to signal round one, Samingdam stood in the center of the ring and catapulted his kicks into Sonrak’s arm. In return, the Fairtex standout countered like he said he would.

In the fight game, however, there is an old saying — be first and be last. Samingdam owned that philosophy as the match went into round two.

The 22-year-old Thai began combinations with punches and ended them with kicks, started with kicks and finished them with punches. The Looksuan athlete brought the same pace into the third canto.

The dizzying strategy kept Sonrak flustered and unable to unleash substantial sequences of his own. In the end, all three judges awarded Samingdam with the victory, which improved his record to 45-9.

Khunponnoi Makes It Five Wins In A Row Against Sakhraji

Khunponnoi Sor Sommai Walid Sakhraji ONE Friday Fights 119 3

Khunponnoi Sor Sommai stretched his record to 125-33 with a unanimous decision victory over ONE newcomer Walid “The Red Lion” Sakhraji in their flyweight Muay Thai tilt.

The 32-year-old, younger brother of legendary Seksan Or Kwanmuang, attacked “The Red Lion” with counter-kicks early on — the only answer to the punches that Sakhraji rushed in with after he darted from his corner at the start of the fight.

Khunponnoi entered round two hunting the Moroccan’s face with punches. Sakhraji, though, failed to hit the evasive target in front of him as left and right fists careened into his jaw and cheeks.

In the final frame, the Thai once again used counter-kicks, this time to turn his foe’s rib cage into deep shades of purple. Sakhraji absorbed the punishment, and Khunponnoi reeled in his fifth straight win on ONE Friday Fights.
