One of the most exciting rivalries in modern Muay Thai is heading toward its long-awaited conclusion.
Living legend Nong-O Hama and Kongthoranee Sor Sommai will settle their rivalry once and for all in a flyweight Muay Thai trilogy bout at ONE Friday Fights 160 on Friday, June 26, in Asia primetime from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Their first meeting came in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 28 in February of last year, a contest that also marked Nong-O’s debut in the flyweight division after his legendary reign as a former eight-time ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion.
The bout was a showcase of contrasting styles and the kind of intensity only two elite Muay Thai practitioners can produce. Kongthoranee came out with aggressive intent, unleashing kicks, teeps, and elbows on the Thai legend in the opening round.
Nong-O responded in the second with his own striking to claw his way back into the contest, but Kongthoranee came alive again in the third and final round, pouring on his full arsenal to take home a split-decision victory.
Nearly three months later, the two met again at ONE Fight Night 31, this time in the main event.
Nong-O arrived with unfinished business and a hunger that was evident from the opening seconds. The former titleholder came out pouring on attacks from the get go, maintaining that barrage throughout all three rounds and refusing to give Kongthoranee the space to build his own rhythm.
The Sor Sommai veteran worked hard to earn his way back into the contest at every opportunity, but Nong-O proved too relentless to contain. The unanimous decision verdict leveled the score at one apiece and ensured a trilogy was not just desirable, but inevitable.
Now both men bring the full weight of that shared history into Lumpinee Stadium for a final chapter that carries enormous significance for their careers.
Kongthoranee is a 29-year-old three-time Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion with a 72-19 career record, a formidable and well-rounded fighter in the prime of his career who has already proven he can beat one of the sport’s greatest ever.
Nong-O is a 39-year-old Evolve MMA product with a 267-59 career record, carrying the experience of a man who has competed at the very highest level of Muay Thai for over three decades.
